Technics SL-1210MK7 is a state-of-the-art turntable – Mixmag

Sven Väth is a firm favourite of the new deck
Technics has affirmed its position as the market leader for vinyl decks with its newest turntable, the SL-1210MK7.
The turntable continues the company’s fine tradition of producing state-of-the-art hardware, updating its flawless SL-1200 series with a number of fresh features and improvements.
The magnetic coreless direct drive motor is highly reliable and does not require parts replacements, providing powerful torque and precise rotation over an extended period of time. Thanks to the coreless centre, the rotation problem of cogging that occasionally impacted older versions is no longer an issue.
Reverse play functionality has been added, allowing users to reverse the rotation of the platter with the touch of a button. The two-layer structure of the platter cuts out unwelcome resonance and detrimental vibration with vibration-damping rubber across the breadth of the back surface. The aluminium die-cast chassis is mixed with ABS and glass fibre to further reduce the impact of external vibrations, and the spring and rubber in the insulator ensures flawless sound quality

The new stylus illuminator has bright and long-life LED, aiding visibility in a dark club, and the aluminium tonearm maintains outstanding tracking performance with minimal stylus skipping, even in rocky playing conditions such as scratching.
Detachable gold-plated power and phono cables are easy to maintain and keep down sound degradation levels, and the sleek all black design marks the SL-1210MK7 out as the best looking turntable on the market as well as the best performing.
It’s a favourite of Sven Väth, who has partnered with Technics this year in a dual celebration of the turntable and the 20th anniversary of his Cocoon Ibiza party, at which Technics turntables have been a mainstay.

“I love Technics turntables, they never fail. They are durable, and also resist bad weather conditions – essential when playing outdoors. Their handling is intuitive and easy, the new models always deliver improvements, but they never lose their authenticity,” said Sven, who DJs exclusively with vinyl. He also praised “the new cool design in black with matching black tonearm.”
Frank Balzuweit, Technical Product Expert for Technics in Europe, said: “To see passionate professionals like Sven work with the MK7, using all the tools the Technics engineers have created for them, is quite an experience. We continue to be extremely proud of being an integral part of this thrilling music culture.
“We want DJs to feel immediately comfortable with the MK7, so ‘familiarity’ became an intrinsic element of the development process. Yet we also want to blow their minds with its augmented functionality.”
The Technics SL-1210MK7 costs £799 and can be purchased from Westend DJ.
