Technics Reveals A Raft Of New Products Including A Black Version Of The Legendary SL-1200 Turntable – Forbes

The new Technics SL-1200G direct drive turntable is now available in a stunning black finish.
There are two vinyl turntables in the history of hi-fi that have achieved legendary status. The first is the evergreen Linn Sondek LP12 and the other is the Technics SL-1200. The LP12 was launched in 1973 and the Technics was a year earlier in 1972. Technics has announced the latest iteration of this classic turntable in the form of the new SL-1210G direct drive turntable. The new deck has all the technical specifications of the SL-1200G but with a new minimalist black finish.
At the heart of the SL-1210G is an iron-coreless direct drive motor featuring a double rotor and single stator for stable rotation that’s free from cogging. As you’d expect with a direct drive turntable from Technics, the SL has a powerful torque for smooth and quick starts. A hybrid encoder detects rotational speeds by using a Hall Sensor for ascertaining the rotor position.
Any DJ turntable worthy of the name needs a robust tonearm and the SL-1210G’s is made from cold-drawn magnesium for a high damping effect. The high-precision tonearm bearings use a cut-processed housing for high initial motion sensitivity, ensuring an accurate reading of the music information contained in a record’s groove
This high-end SL-1200G direct drive turntable from Technics is the ultimate DJ tool.
Supporting the vinyl is a three-layer platter with high vibration-damping for undisturbed tracking. Each platter is individually adjusted for balance. The whole mechanism of the turntable is housed in a high-rigidity cabinet made from four layers and fitted with a heavy aluminum top plate plus high-damping silicone-rubber insulators to prevent any vibration.
The SL-1210G is the latest product to come from the Technics brand, a division of Panasonic that was rested for a couple of decades before being relaunched a few years ago. The overall quality and performance level of the SL-1210G sets a standard for the highest direct drive turntable standards and able to be matched with high-quality phono cartridges for professional vinyl playback.
Pricing and Availability: The Technics SL-1210G will be available from October 2021 and will cost £3,499.
The new Technics SB-G90M21 floor standing speakers now include biwire speaker terminals.
Also being launched today alongside the SL-1210G us the new Technics SB-G90M2 floor-standing loudspeaker system in the brand’s Grand Class series. Like its predecessor, the SB-G90, the new M2 version is a 3-way bass reflex speaker system with a 2-way coaxial driver that includes a 25mm and a 160mm aluminum midrange cone. This is accompanied by two 160mm woofers constructed from aluminum.
Technics claims to have significantly improved the performance qualities over the new speakers’ predecessor, the SB-G90. The new speakers have an advanced phase precision driver with a new structure that reduces resonance and produces a more natural midrange with lower distortion. A linear phase plug has been added to eliminate phase disturbance so that the tweeter sounds more natural

The inner speaker mount baffle that the woofers are mounted on has been the magnet has been extended to one plate attached to the base board, stopping vibrations escaping to the ground. The cabinet’s stiffening structure has been redesigned in the lower area of the cabinet. The standing wave termination structure now efficiently eliminate standing waves while minimizing the use of acoustic damping material. Finally, following requests from customers, Technics has added bi-wiring speaker terminals to the SB-G90M2.
Pricing and Availability: The Technics SB-G90M2 loudspeaker system will be available from October 2021 and will cost £2,199.
With many of the advanced features of its floor-standing sibling, the new SB-C6oo bookshelf speakers … [+] from Technics are ideal for those with smaller living spaces.
Joining the SB-G90MS floor-standing speakers are the new SB-C600, a compact 2-way bass reflex bookshelf speaker with a unique coaxial drive unit that works as a point source, built on the ‘Linear Phase’ principle. The SB-C600 borrows many aspects from its bigger sibling.
Technics used CAE analysis to optimize the drivers, elements and structure of the SB-C600 to eliminate unwanted vibrations and distortions. Technics claims that this significantly improves the overall clarity and performance quality of these bookshelf speakers.
Like it’s bigger sibling, the SB-C600 have a phase precision driver consisting of a 15cm large-diameter woofer, accompanied by a 25mm aluminum dome tweeter. The linear phase plug suppresses unwanted phase disturbance, resulting in the integration of mid and high ranges, with a more natural sound that’s free of distortion
Balanced driver mounting architecture (BDMA fixes the driver to an inner speaker mount baffle in the center of gravity around the driver’s magnet, preventing tumbling motion. This also eliminates unnecessary vibration of the sound wall which Technics says can produce a higher purity of sound.
The front port on the SB-C600 has accurate curve and vortex generators that have been designed using airflow analysis to eliminate any ventilating noise. The rigid cabinet with inner speaker mount baffle suppresses vibrations that produces a more natural sound which Technics claims has superb timing and soundstage.
Pricing and Availability: The Technics SB-C600 will be available from November 2021 and will cost £799.
The SU-G700Ms integrated amplifier from Technics is a significant upgrade on its predecessor and has … [+] some of the technology found in the Technics Reference SU-R1000 integrated amplifier.
The final product being announced by Technics today is the the new SU-G700M2 Integrated Amplifier. This model is based on its predecessor, the SU-G700 using some of the more advanced technologies used in the Technics Reference SU-R1000 integrated amplifier, albeit at a more affordable price.
The SU-G700M2 uses full-digital core amplifier technologies, such as the JENO Engine (Jitter Elimination and Noise-Shaping Optimization) for a signal that’s free of jitter and distortion, and LAPC (Load Adaptive Phase Calibration) for optimal matching to any loudspeaker.
The new SU-G700M2 has an advanced speed silent power supply with “fast” semiconductor parts using GaN (Gallium-Nitride) FETs and Silicium Carbide (SiC) diodes for a more reactive and efficient supply of current to the power stage. This approach was used also for the power supply of the Reference SU-R1000
Additionally, the new amplifier claims an improved sound image and dynamic power, low distortion, high transparency plus an improved soundstage with more precisely focused voices and instruments.
For vinyl lovers, the SU-G700M2 has a high-quality MC phono input stage (in addition to MM input) for direct connectivity to turntables that are fitted with high-end MC pickup cartridges. The phono input phase selector has been optimized playback of mainly older vinyl discs recorded with inverted phase.
The volume and source knobs on the amplifier now have the aluminum “spin” texture that has also been taken from the SU-R1000 reference amplifier to make it stand out from its predecessor.
Pricing and Availability: The Technics SU-G700M2 integrated amplifier will be available from October 2021 and costs £2,199 in silver or black.
