Technics released the SL-1200 turntable in 1972, a device that quickly became the go to for audio enthusiasts and DJs. Noted for its smooth and reliable playback thanks to a direct drive motor and robust built, the SL-1200 quickly became the go to, and set the standard for the period.
To celebrate 50 years since its release, Technics are releasing a limited-edition SL-1200M7L, sporting the features that made the original so good, as well as additional modern comforts and improvements.

Audio-enthusiasts will have to get in quick as Technics only plan to make 12,000 models, with colours ranging in black, beige, blue, green, red, white and yellow. Pre-orders start from today and will cost roughly A$1,464 (US$1,099), with deliveries expected to start in June this year.
The SL-1200M7L will boast the same features as the current SL-1200MK7, with the same direct-drive motor and accurate tone arm, but with visual enhancements such as the tonearm being gold anodized, a 50th anniversary sticker, a slipmat with a gold-coloured Technics logo and a badge with an engraved serial number.
The only thing users will need is their own cartridge.
