Technics, but will we get a new one?
Technics
Technics has been teasing something for a little while and we may find out very soon what it is. According to reports and their social media, it would appear as though they are getting ready to unveil a new New SL-1200 DJ Turntable at CES in Las Vegas on January 7.
The clues line up. They have been pushing a hashtag #technics7th over the past few days, leading up to the event on January 7 at 8pm PST, which will feature noted selectors and DJs Kenny Dope, Derrick May, Cut Chemist and DJ Koco. It will be live streamed on Boiler Room and Dommune. According to the company, “"the event will focus on the SL-1200 Series with performances by globally renowned DJs who are also fans of the legendary series.”
The last SL-1200 turntable was the SL-1200MK6, which was released in 2007, following a relaunch in 2016 for a criticized price $4,000 price tag.
With so many other companies entering the market to capitalize on the vinyl boom, the question will be about pricing and features. Can technics start to captures some of the lower end of the market with several different versions or will it remain focused pretty solely on DJs?
We reached out to Technics and Panasonic for comment and they are not commenting at this time.
